Kaitaia Water Emergency Response Project

In an urgent response to prevent Kaitaia from running out of water in 10 days, we took on the challenge and successfully installed 4km of 2x 125mm temporary water pipes across farmland, connecting to an iwi-owned bore in just 7 days.

Scope: Installation of emergency waterline for Kaitaia

Key aspects of this project included:

  • Installed 4 km of 4x 125mm OD water pipe, extending from the pump station and crossing school grounds and farmland to reach the iwi-owned bore
  • Both Trenching and Trenchless (HDD) Installation methods used
  • Contributed to methodology and design
  • Mobilised rapidly to meet urgent project needs
  • Managed a high-profile project with critical, time-sensitive deadlines
  • Conducted respectful and attentive stakeholder engagement with the council, iwi, and other parties, as the proposed route crossed Māori land, private property and two schools
  • Negotiations and management of suppliers to meet deadlines

Key Achievements:

  • Completed ducting installation in just 7 days
  • Created employment opportunities for seven locals, with four retained post-project
  • 100% of project team whakapapa to Te Rarawa
  • Effectively managed stakeholder relationships
  • Maintained a zero-incident record
