Te Pūawaitanga – Waipapa Sports Hub

North Drill led Stage 1 of the ‘Te Puawaitanga – Bay of Islands Sports Hub’ project, transforming farmland into the foundation for a major recreational facility in Te Tai Tokerau.

Client: Far North District Council
Scope of Work: Construction of Sports Fields, Car Park, and Related Civil Works

Our work included:

  • Site clearance and erosion control
  • Earthworks, including stripping 10,000m² of topsoil
  • Preparing 58,000m² of subgrade for five sports fields
  • Installing 900LM of stormwater drainage (300mm to 900mm diameter)
  • Constructing roads and a 10,000m² car park

Key Achievements:

  • Adhering to environmental and safety standards, particularly GD05 for erosion and sediment control
  • Collaborated closely with the Engineer to meet project specifications and deadlines
  • Secured 13 months of additional work, including constructing rugby fields, power ducts, access pits, public toilets, footpaths, and landscaping
  • Maintained high site cleanliness and safety standards throughout the project
  • Successfully engaged with stakeholders, including mana whenua and hapu, acknowledging the cultural significance of the site

This project demonstrates North Drill’s ability to manage large-scale infrastructure projects, build strong relationships with stakeholders, customer satisfaction to secure further works, and deliver quality results on time and within budget.
